SSM Health St. Mary's Hospital – Madison offers Phase I, II, and III pulmonary rehabilitation programs to help patients who have obstructive or restrictive lung disease improve physical and emotional well-being.
Phased Program Approach - Breathe with EASE
Staff educates inpatients about their lung disease, infection control, medication use and our COPD exacerbation program.
With a referral from your primary care physician, pulmonologist or hospitalist, outpatient pulmonary rehab includes monitored exercise sessions and education classes.
Education classes address topics including lung anatomy, nutrition basics, stress management, relaxation techniques, exercise guidelines, pulmonary medications, respiratory equipment, signs and symptoms of exacerbation, infection control and diabetes management.
The full program is 16-24 sessions over 8-12 weeks. It is covered by Medicare and most insurance companies. We have class times every Tuesday and Thursday at 8:30 am, 10:00 am and 1:00 pm.
To qualify for the program, you must have a moderate to severe disease diagnosis. We will work with you on smoking cessation if you are still smoking. The program is for patients with conditions including: Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD), emphysema, asthma, bronchitis, sarcoidosis, cystic fibrosis, pulmonary fibrosis, pulmonary hypertension, interstitial lung disease, bronchiectasis, lung cancer, pre/post lung surgery and other pulmonary related conditions.
This exercise program is for Phase II graduates. The goal is to provide support and guidance as you move toward an independent exercise program.
This is a self-pay program. Participants may exercise on Tuesday and Thursday from 7:45 am - 11:00 am or 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm.
