Unlike some hospitals, St. Mary's serves pediatric patients in a unit that is entirely dedicated to children, with bright, colorful décor and a staff that loves working with kids. Upon arrival, patients receive a special hand-made quilt or blanket from Project Linus for comfort in the hospital as well as for a positive memory of the warmth they experienced at St. Mary's. We know that comfort is important to both patient and family. In situations like these, comfort often is found in being together. Every room features a pull-out bed to accommodate overnight guests, and the intensive care unit offers separate sleeping rooms for the families of children who are critically ill.
In addition, our experienced nursing staff understands the many emotions that go along with the reality of a sick child, and they are equipped to help families – and the patients – to work through their stress and help the healing process advance more quickly.
