My 12 year old daughter, Rylee, came to St. Mary’s on May 31, 2011, for a spinal fusion by Dr. Noonan. The surgery took about six hours to replace and fuse together most of her upper spine. My wife also had this procedure done when she was 14 years old. It was an emotional time for my family, when you have a daughter in the hospital for surgery it tends to take a toll on you. The pain that a scoliosis patient endures after back surgery is indescribably bad.
As I sit here very tired, I am compelled to write your facility and tell you my family’s story. The few days after surgery were very stressful for my wife and I, it was hard to see my daughter go through so much pain. We wish we could have traded places with her. The nursing staff in the Pediatrics Unit were so helpful and understanding, it would have been hard to cope without all of their support; we truly felt like part of their family. We would like to send special thanks to Dr. Noonan and his team for helping Rylee. The nursing staff went above and beyond any thing we could have hoped for. I would like to thank them by posting this in hopes whoever receives this email will honor them in some great way. The names of the nurses that blessed our family are as follows: Lisa, Charline, Sam, Mary K, Colleen, Kelly, Jess, Barbara, Sherri, Brian, their helpers. We would like to send a special thank you to Charline, as she had the most shifts with Rylee. All the nurses on staff were greatly appreciated, we felt so blessed and thankful.
