The birth of your baby adds a brand new dimension to your life. That’s why St. Mary's Hospital offers special classes to help you prepare for the changes a new baby brings, the care you and your baby will need, and your special time together. Fathers or another support person are encouraged to attend the classes too. It is best to take these classes weeks 28 through 36. Space is limited, so please register early.
Family Birth Center Tour for Adults
One-hour tours of the St. Mary's Family Birth Center are available for expectant mothers and one adult support person. Tours are held on Sundays at 1:30, 3 and 4:30 pm except for these weekends: New Years, Super Bowl Sunday, Easter, Mother's Day, Memorial Day, Father's Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving and Christmas.

BEST Start Support Group: Breastfeeding Education Support Team
Join other nursing mothers (both first-timers and experienced) and lactation consultants to chat about topics such as growth, latch, nutrition and sleeping. A scale will be available for you to weigh your baby. Stay as little or as long as you can to connect with other moms who have the same questions and concerns about breastfeeding as you do! Classes are held on Thursdays from 1:30 to 3:00 pm at St. Mary's Hospital, Dining Room A. Free valet parking is available. Call 608-258-6474 for more information.

Boot Camp for New Dads
First time fathers join experienced dads (and their babies) to learn how they made it through the first months of parenthood to become confident on-the-job fathers. This is a one-time class for men, taught by men and no question or topic is off limits.
For moms-to-be who are planning to breastfeed or are deciding how they'll feed their baby. Learn about breast anatomy, the mechanics of breastfeeding, breast care, nutrition for breastfeeding women, solutions for common breastfeeding challenges and resources available in the community.
Caring for your Newborn
Learn to recognize typical physical and behavioral characteristics of your new baby. You'll also learn infant feeding, cord care, diapering and measures you can take for your baby's health and safety.

Certified, experienced childbirth instructors will teach you and your support person ways to enhance your comfort and decision-making during labor and birth. The class covers relaxation and breathing methods, labor support skills, signs and stages of labor, labor variations and complications, pain management techniques and medication options for a healthy and joyous birth experience.
This class focuses on mom's health after delivery. Topics include physical changes, possible emotional changes for you and your family, the first few days at home with your new baby, exercise and proper nutrition.

Learn the skills of infant (0-12 mo.) CPR and relief of choking in a relaxed, friendly atmosphere - perfect for expecting parents. This course is for those who would like to learn CPR for personal reasons; no course completion card is issued.
