SSM Health Care of Wisconsin Welcomes Two New Leaders

We are pleased to announce the addition of two new members to our SSM Health Care of Wisconsin Leadership Team.

After conducting a national search, we have filled the positions of President/CEO of Dean Clinic and also Regional President/CEO of Hospital Operations for SSM Health Care of Wisconsin. These two individuals, along with Lon Sprecher, CEO of Dean Health Plan, will partner in the leadership and management of our integrated delivery network in the Wisconsin region.

Stewart Watson, MD (shown right), has accepted the position of President/CEO of Dean Clinic.  In this role, Dr. Watson will focus on the management of physician practices and clinic operations for the Wisconsin region. He will report to Shane Peng, MD, Interim President of Physician and Ambulatory Services for the system.

Damond Boatwright, MS, MHA (shown left), has been named Regional President/CEO of Hospital Operations. In this role, Mr. Boatwright will focus on hospital operations at St. Clare Hospital in Baraboo, St. Mary’s Hospital in Madison and St. Mary’s Janesville Hospital. He will report to Chris Howard, President of Hospital Operations for the system.

Dr. Watson comes to us from Ministry Medical Group, based in central Wisconsin, where he has served as its President/CEO. He is a native of Madison, Wisconsin and received his undergraduate degree in economics from Dartmouth College and his medical degree from the University of Cincinnati. He completed his residency in emergency medicine at the University of Chicago and practiced emergency medicine both there and in North Carolina. Before coming back to Wisconsin and Ministry Health, he founded and served as president/owner of a multi-hospital emergency medicine staffing company in North Carolina for 18 years.

Mr. Boatwright joins us from Overland Park Regional Medical Center in the greater Kansas City area, where he has led patient-centered care delivery at the 350-bed acute-care hospital since October 2011. The hospital has earned Joint Commission recognition as one of the nation's top-performing hospitals on key quality measures.  Mr. Boatwright graduated from The Citadel Military College of South Carolina with a degree in business administration and earned his master’s degree in health administration and health sciences from the Medical University of South Carolina – Charleston. He also went on to complete a health services management fellowship at Duke University Medical Center.

Dr. Watson and Mr. Boatwright will join us on February 10, 2014.
