Frank Byrne, MD, FACHE, President of St. Mary’s Hospital, received the American College of Healthcare Executives Senior-Level Healthcare Executive Regent’s Award recently at the American College of Healthcare Executives Wisconsin Chapter Annual Meeting.
The award was bestowed upon Dr. Byrne by Mark Hamilton, ACHE’s Regent for Wisconsin and Vice President of Ambulatory Operations for the University of Wisconsin Hospital and Clinics. The Senior-Level Healthcare Executive Regent’s Award recognized affiliates who are experienced in the field and have significantly contributed toward the advancement of healthcare management excellence and the achievement of the goals of ACHE.
Affiliates are evaluated on leadership ability, innovative and creative management, executive capability in developing their own organization and promoting its growth and stature in the community. They’re also evaluated on their participation in local, state, or provincial hospital and health association activities, civic/community activities and projects, ACHE activities and for their interest in assisting ACHE in achieving its objectives.
Dr. Byrne has served as President of St. Mary’s Hospital since 2004 and has overseen the completion of a $182 million expansion, the transition to an electronic health record and the opening of the state’s only free-standing emergency center. SSM Health Care, St. Mary’s parent company, is the first healthcare organization in the nation to earn the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award and St. Mary’s has twice been awarded Magnet recognition for nursing excellence.
Byrne holds Fellow status in the American College of Healthcare Executives, practiced pulmonary and critical care medicine in Fort Wayne, Indiana and was previously the President of Parkview Hospital and Foundation in Fort Wayne. He has board certification in healthcare management and demonstrates a commitment to professional excellence. In addition, he holds an appointment as a clinical professor at the University of Wisconsin Medical School, sits on the board of directors for the Wisconsin Medical Society and is a Fellow of the American College of Physician Executives. Dr. Byrne is currently the chair of the Greater Madison Biomedical Collaborative and has served on the Governor’s Strategic Leadership Team for Healthiest Wisconsin 2020.
Dr. Byrne holds a Masters in Medical Management from Carnegie Mellon, an MD from State University of New York Downstate Medical Center and a BS from Notre Dame.
