Moms and moms to be are getting an early holiday gift this year. St. Mary’s Hospital has opened its brand new Family Birth Center! The $12 million center accepted its first patient on December 22. It promises to turn a St. Mary’s Birth into truly a memorable experience.
“We really looked at every aspect of a mother’s stay with us and found unique ways to make the experience one she’ll never forget,” says Kristin McManmon, the Vice President of Operations. “In this first phase we focused on adding comfort and conveniences to our Family Care Suites and we are certain families are going to notice!”
Families and visitors to the new Family Birth Center will enjoys rooms complete with spa-like comforts such as three-head showers, Tempurpedic-style double beds and plush pillows. There’s also an in-room bathing sink and warming light for baby’s first bath, a glider chair, a fully reclining chair for sleeping and of course a flat-screen TV and DVD player for the family’s entertainment needs. Mom and a guest also receive an elegant celebration dinner during their stay including a specially prepared entrée, mixed green salad and dessert.
Located on a new floor in the hospital, all rooms in the new birth center have a large window and beautiful view of the Capitol, Vilas Park or one of St. Mary’s gardens.
Those waiting to see the newest member of the family will now do so in style. Common spaces have been updated and are spacious and posh. Visitors will be able to relax by the fireplace, listen to the soothing sounds of water, or make food in the kitchenette. There’s also a young siblings play area that will provide a more relaxed, visitor-friendly atmosphere.
“Having a baby is so much more than just giving birth,” says Holly Halberslaben, the director of the Family Care Suites. “It’s one of the most memorable moments of a woman’s life. We are excited to open this brand new section and really take the whole experience to a new level.”
